For years, I followed a vegetarian diet, eating plenty of fruit, vegetables and pulses, yet I often felt bloated, tired, and uncomfortable. Growing up in the 80s and 90s, I had also absorbed a lot of the restrictive messages of diet culture, which left me wary of certain foods and struggling with my relationship with eating.
Everything shifted when I found Dr Megan on Instagram. Her science-based advice and the “30 plants a week” challenge encouraged me to look at my diet differently. I realised that while I was eating lots of plants, I wasn’t eating a wide variety. By diversifying my meals, adding nuts, seeds, healthy fats, and fermented foods like kefir, I started to notice a real change.
Now, my symptoms have eased. No more daily tummy aches, I have more energy, and I feel less tired. I even lost a stone in weight without trying. Most importantly, I’ve begun to change the way I think about food, shifting from restriction and worry to a more positive, balanced approach that’s still a work in progress.
