I’ve always tried to eat what I thought was a healthy diet, but during my post-menopausal years I started suffering with stomach bloating and regular constipation. Over time, my confidence and self-esteem began to be affected. I blamed the menopause, as it can alter your sense of self immensely, and I wondered if I would ever feel like myself again.
Wanting to take action rather than let my hormones define who I am, I started looking for information about bloating. I was fascinated by the scientific information Dr Megan shared about gut health and its effect on the whole body.
I started making small changes to my diet, like swapping out branflakes for Bio&Me, adding kefir berries, and seeds to my breakfast bowl and I started to feel changes. Over time I decided to completely overhaul my diet. Learning more about the gut microbiome encouraged me to eat a more diverse range of foods and take a greater interest in supporting my gut health.
Fast forward three years and my abdomen is as flat as it was 20 years ago! I still get the occasional bloating, but now understand why it may be happening (fibre dumping, anyone?!). I’ve introduced Bio&Me to numerous friends who have struggled with bloating, and I always advocate Dr Megan as a reliable, evidence-based source of information regarding gut health.
In a world of misinformation online, it’s reassuring to know that the scientific evidence available is helping to dispel myths theories we are often bombarded with. As I approach my 63rd birthday, I feel fabulous!
