In my early 20s, I started experiencing bloating, constipation and overall gut discomfort. I was a pescatarian, eating what I considered a balanced diet and exercising, but my symptoms still persisted. After going back and forth to the GP, being diagnosed with IBS and trying numerous laxatives, I started the low FODMAP diet. While it gave some relief, it never fully resolved my symptoms. I stayed gluten-free for over 10 years, thinking it was the answer…

It wasn’t until I discovered The Gut Health Doctor’s page on Instagram that I learnt about the gut microbiome, the benefits of fibre, and that gluten isn’t always the bad guy! I began bulking out my meals with fibre-rich beans, pulses and grains, adding more plant variety, introducing kefir, and including more protein like tofu and fish. Most importantly, I am no longer gluten-free! I started with sourdough and now even make my own.
