Let’s talk baby reflux – One for the parents! I had SO many questions from you guys about this and it’s a super common issue in babies.
Reflux is essentially when contents from the stomach comes up the food pipe, meaning they might either be sick or swallow it back down again.
Here’s what you can do…
- During feeding: think about their positioning, making sure their head is above their tummy.
- After feeding: keep them in an upright position for 20-30 mins – whether it’s lots of cuddles, leaning back on you but still upright, before putting them down. This can help the feed go down in the right direction and not be triggered to come back up again.
- Check the volume: reflux can be triggered by over-feeding and may be more common with bottle-fed or formula-fed babies. What it says on the packet might not be right for your baby, so best to check by their weight.
- Little and often: try having smaller more frequent feeds, it generally helps it stay down a little bit better.
Reflux might also be a sign of delayed cow’s milk protein allergy.
