Spoiler: there’s NO evidence that your blood type has any effect on your nutrition needs!
Supporters suggest your blood type affects which foods best suit you for optimal health – with 4 different diets for blood types A, B, AB and O.
Where does the idea come from?
There is some evidence that your blood type could influence the risk of some conditions (e.g. cardiovascular disease), although it’s certainly not a life sentence.
And sure, some people might feel healthier after going on one of these ‘blood type diets’
BUT no clinical trials show that any health benefits have anything to do with your blood type.
In fact, a new 2020 study showed blood type made no difference to the effect of a plant-based diet.
It’s more likely just because they’re eating more whole plant-based foods than before!
- Regardless of blood type, participants who ate more fruit, vegetables and grains had…
- Lower blood pressure
- Lower cholesterol
- Lower blood fat levels
- Better weight management
So instead of worrying about eating for your blood type, it’s worth thinking about what you’re feeding your gut microbes.
More plant points, more fibre, more flavour = more diverse gut microbes = better health and happiness.
